Where to Find STL Files You Can Legally Sell (Free and Paid)
Last checked: Oct 2026. General information, not legal advice. Not legal advice. A merchant license in this directory covers physical prints only. It never allows sharing or selling the digital files. Prices and rules are taken from the linked source on each listing's last-verified date. "Unverified" means the source did not say.
Quick answer. Free commercial license STL files are the ones marked CC0 or CC BY (and, with extra rules, CC BY-SA or CC BY-ND) on the model page. Paid commercial use STL files, in the sense of a right to sell the physical print, are merchant tiers. This directory is the paid side. Prices below are copied from the listings. None are guessed.
Free commercial license STL files
Start with the license name, not the site. A file can be free to download and still be personal use only.
- CC0 is the free commercial license with no credit requirement. The deed allows commercial use. It does not give you someone else's trademark.
- CC BY is the free commercial license that requires credit. Follow the attribution line the license asks for, on the product listing as well as the download.
- CC BY-SA allows commercial use and requires the same license on adaptations. CC BY-ND allows commercial copies of the unchanged work and does not allow a remix. The full table is Thingiverse licenses explained.
- Anything with NC, Thingiverse's All Rights Reserved, Printables' Standard Digital File License, and Cults3D's default Private Use are not free commercial licenses. Cults3D commercial license and CULTS PU and the MakerWorld guide cover those names. The four types together are STL commercial license types explained.
Thingiverse and Printables are the two large free libraries whose own terms say the uploader picks the license, including Creative Commons. You still open the model and read the name. A search result that only says "free STL" is not a license. This page does not list individual free models, because a license on a file can change only by the uploader's later uploads, and a remix can carry a different license from the original. Designers in this directory who allow selling prints with no license fee are on Free to sell.
Paid: designers who offer a merchant license
The paid path in this directory is a membership, or sometimes a per-model fee, where the source text grants the right to sell physical prints. It never grants the right to sell the STL. The figure next to a name below is the cheapest commercial tier stored for that listing. A price of Free means no license fee, not a monthly membership.
How those tiers usually end when you cancel is covered in how merchant licenses work. What to charge, once you have the right, is how much to charge for 3D prints.

FAQ
Where do I find free commercial license STL files?
On a model whose license is CC0 or CC BY, which you read on that model's page. Thingiverse and Printables both let an uploader choose a Creative Commons license. CC0 does not require credit. CC BY does. A free download under a non-commercial license, All Rights Reserved, or a Standard Digital File License is not a free commercial license.
Where do I find commercial use STL files I pay for?
In this directory. Each listing is a designer who offers a merchant license for physical prints. The price on the listing is the cheapest commercial tier stored from the source, in that designer's currency. It is not a price for the STL as a product you can resell.
Does CC0 mean I can sell the file itself?
CC0 is a copyright waiver, so far as the law allows, including commercial use of the work. A merchant license in this directory is different: it covers the physical print and forbids selling the file. Do not mix the two. A CC0 file can still depict someone else's trademark.
If the tier is a monthly price, is every model included?
Only the models that tier's source text covers, and only while that tier says the license lasts. Read the listing. Some notes limit which month's files, which store, or which sales channel.
Is this legal advice?
No. This is general information, not legal advice. Platform rules were last checked in October 2026. Directory prices were last verified on each listing's own date.
